Several products from Studco Building Systems were used to design a concealed ceiling system that could safely carry the weight of a 400kg light fixture in an interior fitout project for leading Australian infrastructure company, Jemena in Melbourne.
Jemena sought a transformative and sustainable work environment in their office located at 567 Collins Street in Melbourne. Designed by Woods Bagot, the fitout project incorporated steel studs and suspended ceiling systems from Studco. Executed over a period of seven months, the 15,000m² fitout across seven floors was coordinated by Newstruct. The time-sensitive project required all parties to operate in an efficient manner for successful completion.
The brief sought a range of complex ceilings, walls and partition finishes including doors. External curved corners encompassing all the ceilings and partitions, an interconnecting staircase with curved lines at every bend, and a two-tier bulkhead for an uninterrupted strip of light that followed the curves for six levels of the building were some of the design highlights.
Installing the light strip fitting was indeed a challenge since the builders were aware of the fixture’s weight and that it would be too heavy for the ceiling to hold. Looking for a reliable solution, Newstruct and Melbourne Building Supplies consulted with Studco’s Technical Team. Studco engineered a secure and cost-effective solution to ensure the concealed ceiling system could hold the 400kg light structure without a problem, with the installation also complying with all requirements of the Building Code of Australia.
Loyal distributor of Studco Building Products, Melbourne Building Supplies (MBS) supplied Studco stud and track, suspended ceilings, and EZY Reveals for the Jemena interior refurbishment. MBS supplied over 7,000 lengths of steel, with sufficient stock set aside for the Jemena fitout in Studco’s built-for-purpose National Manufacturing and Warehousing Facility.
Newstruct was presented with the AWCI ANZ 2016 award for a Non-Residential project over $500K for their work on the fitout.
