SUPAWOOD’s ALUCLICK
beams proved to be the answer for the refurbishment of an office building in a
key North Sydney location. A product was required not only for use as an open
screen to hide the 1st floor carpark but also to form a very visual
part of the building’s façade as appearance was a key consideration.
Instead of choosing a common looking
architectural mesh, the designers, Davenport Campbell came up with a design
that used beams installed in a vertical geometric pattern using 2 different
colours in different profiles to create a 3D effect.
An open front to the 1st floor
of the carpark was vital to ensure good ventilation as this level of the building
is completely enclosed by the buildings on either side. However it was crucial
that this part of the facade be aesthetically rendered to reflect the quality
of the refurbishment and complement other elements used on the exterior face of
the building.
SUPAWOOD worked closely with the
builders, MPA Projects to match from the ALUCLICK colour range the specified
colours in the designers’ original brief. Casuarina woodgrain was selected to
match other timber beamed elements in the main entrance and Nobel Silver to complement
other structural metal elements.
ALUCLICK beams come in a variety of standard
profiles and are easy and economical to install to achieve the sculptured effect
the designers envisaged. As standard sizes were used, lead time and costs were
reduced. Made from extruded aluminium, ALUCLICK meets the non-combustible fire
retardant requirements and ensured a lasting durable exterior finish.
The end result is a functional open ALUCLICK
screen which hides the carpark but fuses perfectly to become an appealing integral
part of the architecture of the building.
