Sync was engaged by the builders to supply 120 bathroom pods for the prison expansion project at the Wellington Correctional Facility in NSW.
Part of a $3.6B investment by the NSW government into the state’s prison system, the Wellington Correctional Facility expansion project was driven by Department of Justice deadlines, which meant the builders, Hansen and Yuncken had to complete the build within a shorter timeframe than conventional construction would allow. Additionally, the remote location of the prison raised concerns about the availability of labour and local industry capacity.
To address these issues, the builders decided to use multiple construction methodologies during the execution of the project - Wellington being the first prison in the state to be expanded using these methods. These methods also included offsite prefabrication in the form of Sync bathroom pods.
Sync was contracted to deliver 120 bathroom pods for the prison expansion, encompassing two different typologies. The bathrooms feature vinyl walls, epoxy plate flooring and Britex stainless steel fittings and fixtures, meeting strict design and build criteria for correctional projects.
Removing bathroom construction from the critical path allowed for efficiencies in safety, quality and delivery, assisting the builders Hansen and Yuncken to meet strict project timelines.
This project was Sync’s first prison project, and second collaboration with builders Hansen and Yuncken.
