Hickory Group, the builder of The Istana apartment development in Melbourne, chose to partner with Taubmans to achieve the desired outcomes in interior finishes.
The developers of The Istana on A’Beckett Street in Melbourne’s CBD sought to infuse the apartments with a pronounced sense of luxury. The interiors of the building designed by C&K Architecture were given the same sophisticated level of treatment as the contemporary but bold facades. The building houses one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, together with the four luxurious two-storey penthouses.
A key objective of the designers, developers and builders of The Istana was to do several things well, and certainly much better than what’s typically provided by the market. In response to the streetscape with its heritage features, The Istana carries a bold facade design, composed at the lower levels with articulated formal elements.
Since the choice of interior paint finishes and coatings was crucial for achieving the best outcome, Hickory Group chose Taubmans as their project partner for the development. Rino Colaci, Project Manager at Hickory Group, explained that Taubmans’ selection was based not only on the quality and performance of their products, but also the exceptional service they deliver to their partners. The Hickory Group has been working with Taubmans for several years.
Rino explains that each Istana apartment has slight variations in the colour scheme to complement the Jarrah or Tallowwood flooring. The apartments also feature a drop ceiling painted in contrast with the walls and ceilings; therefore, it was important that the interior paint complemented both the light and dark colour schemes.
Hickory and its chosen commercial painter, UBM Group discussed the colour scheme with Taubmans and selected Taubmans’ Pure Performance range, which provides maximum hiding power and superior coverage, while delivering excellent application efficiency. Pure Performance paints are also scuff-resistant in the finished product, and highly washable.
