The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) recently completed an impressive installation of its steel concertina doors to the Eddy Avenue entrance and side entry (northern concourse) of this heritage listed landmark property – Central Station.

Australia’s largest train station – both in size and passenger numbers – Central Station is an integral transport interchange for Sydney’s light rail, commuter trains and bus services.

ATDC installed these concertina doors in a side-by-side tandem overhead tracking configuration, which minimised the storage depth of these doors to only 8% of the overall spans being secured. Lock-up was achieved through a series of intermediate up/down locking mechanisms, which offer seamless lock-up without the need to lock onto any of the walls of the railway station, or for any floor tracking.

The doors were specified by renowned architectural firm Woods Bagot. International engineering and construction company Laing O’Rourke served as the project managers for the installation.

All installation works were carried out between 10pm and 4am over three consecutive nights by ATDC’s skilled installation crews.
