    RAIA Council Elections

    The ALP’s plan for affordable housing has been supported by the Housing Industry Association (HIA). The plan released today commits a Labor Government to the development of a National Housing Strategy which would cover social housing, private rental housing and home ownership issues.

    The NRMA Insurance and HIA 2001 NSW Housing Awards have been announced, with Mullumbimby builder Bush Pavilions winning the major award, the NRMA Insurance Home of the Year, as well as the categories for Spec Home of the Year and Spec Homes over $160,000.

    Sir Michael Latham, the renowned reformer of the United Kingdom construction industry, launched a guide for a new system of construction project procurement in Sydney this week.


    Architects’ employment on the rise

    The latest Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) staff levels survey shows a one percent rise in architectural employment to the six months to September which was in line with expectations for the period. The 400 firms that participated expect the increase will continue, with a further two percent rise predicted in the following six months.


    Housing starts dip in September

    Home building approvals dipped in September for the first time in six months, with approvals down 4.3 percent on July. However the 15,025 dwellings approved were still 60 percent higher than a year earlier when the building industry was at the height of its post-GST gloom.


    Tax changes on contractors win praise

    The tax changes for contractors and consultants tabled in Parliament yesterday have been welcomed by the Housing Industry Association (HIA).


    GreenSmart Village earns housing accolades

    GreenSmart Village at HomeWorld, Kellyville, constructed by Wesley Mission, has won three major housing industry awards. It won the Environment Australia Partnership Award from a national field of entries, received another award for the use of environmental power, and most recently walked off with a best display home award from the Master Builders’ Association.

The ‘space shuttle’ foyer which conveys people from the entranceway into the restaurant can move and sway before apparently locking on to the space station and disgorging its “passengers.”


    Moisture barrier

    Aquron 2000 from Allcrete Industries is said to have been proven superior to previous methods of preventing delamination of impervious flooring due to moisture, whether this arises from a newly-poured slab or an old slab which has no damp-proof membrane.
