The Build & Design Queensland expo will open its doors to the design, architecture, building, construction and property development industry for the first time this week.

Co-located with the Australian Institute of Architects National Architecture Conference and CEDIA expo, Build & Design Queensland opens at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from 9 — 11 May and is free for industry professionals who register online, saving $20 at the door.

Organisers say they are expecting over 3000 visitors throughout the three days.

“This expo is designed specifically for the Queensland market with over 130 leading exhibitors including the big brand names such as Bosch, BlueScope Steel, CSR, Warwick Fabrics and ace stone + tiles, plus local and boutique suppliers, a CPD accredited seminar program and daily special events,” Exhibition Manager, Michael-William Kelly said.

“The Boral Seminar Theatre will run alongside the expo and cover topics such as ‘The Build and Design of the New Brisbane Supreme and District Court Building’ presented by a leading panel including John Hockings of Architectus, Allan Robertson of Lend Lease, Brad Nairn of Manly Concrete and Mike Bradford of North West Commercial Industries.

“There are also sessions with an environmental focus such as ‘Energex Building - 6 Star’ panel discussion, ‘Sustainable Tropical Design’ and ‘Delivering green - what you need to know’ as well as product specific seminars.

“We’re pleased to bring this opportunity to Queensland and support an industry dedicated to reconstruction projects, new projects and foster an emerging design culture,” he said.

Exhibition Manager, Michael-William Kelly said:

“Following a year of disasters with floods and cyclones, a year of recovery is on its way with the rebuilding of devastated areas, but there are also fresh construction projects on the horizon with significant international events including the Commonwealth Games.

“New building contracts, as well as rebuilding projects, must be done with a sustainable focus implementing forward thinking design and planning that is tailored to Queensland and its natural environment. “
