DMF International supervised the recent installation of their Efaflex high speed doors at one of BHP’s large mine sites in central Australia. DMF supplied 8 units of Efaflex high speed spiral doors for the installation.
DMF worked closely with the design team, head contractor, and BHP to deliver a product suited to the harsh conditions of the mine site. These high speed door models are a premium product, manufactured in Germany by Efaflex Gmbh, under specification by DMF. The doors were installed by the head contractor, with DMF overseeing the installation and commissioning of the doors by deputing their senior engineer to the site.
The model selected was the STR, which has a 900gsm PVC panel, with closely spaced windbars, and allows speeds of over 1.5m/sec by tracking around the spiral design. This model has a high wind capacity at 100km/h, remaining fully operational under this wind load. The doors were 6m in height, and ranging from 6m to 7m in width.
The Efatronic controller has a simplified design with fully programmable features, a single phase power source, and invertor control providing a soft start/stop operation of the door. This feature removes significant loading of the door operation, especially when working at such high speeds with considerable angular momentum of the door blade.
The doors come complete with light curtain safety, which ensures the doors do not close with any object within the opening. In addition, the doors are activated by laser widescan sensors, which have the ability to determine cross traffic, safety zoning and virtual pullcord functions, all programmable by an app and Bluetooth.
This is now the third mine site operated by BHP where DMF has supplied their Efaflex high speed doors. DMF has enjoyed success on many projects around Australia, installing and maintaining Efaflex doors for over 14 years.
