DMF International recently installed hygienic lead-lined X-ray GRP swing doors at the Roma Hospital in Roma, Queensland. Engaged by Watpac Constructions for the hospital redevelopment project, DMF supplied the fully X-ray compliant GRP swing doors. The lead-lined doors are becoming increasingly popular in hygienic applications requiring radiation shielding. Hospitals are specifying these clinical hygiene designed doors to meet and maintain the rising standards in healthcare facilities.
DMF has partnered with Dortek Ltd to provide these seamless GRP door solutions throughout Australia. Traditional solutions have the lead lining material surface mounted and then covered, leaving voids or seams where dirt can accumulate. However, Dortek lead-lined doors have the lead sheet completely concealed in the waterproof GRP door shell, ensuring that the GRP doors still offer all the hygienic benefits critical for clean environments.
The hygienic GRP doors from DMF Dortek are made from plastic reinforced with very fine glass fibres, commonly referred to as glass reinforced polyester (GRP). The doors have a smooth, non-porous and fluid/ chemical resistant surface, which allows easy cleaning. The design with no lips, joins or edges (even around vision panels) combined with a timber-free and inorganic door finish and door core, makes these GRP doors extremely versatile and ideally suited to harsh or hygiene-critical environments found in healthcare and cleanroom facilities.
DMF Dortek doors come with lead thickness of up to 25mm for specialist high energy therapy applications and door sizes up to 2850mm W x 2450mm H. These lead-lined door solutions can be manufactured to offer a wide variety of performance characteristics to suit specific application requirements such as lead lining and lead-lined privacy vision panels as well as fire ratings, hermetic sealing, smoke, acoustics and hands-free automation.
For the Roma Hospital installation, DMF Dortek supplied the doors with special full blockout window ‘blinds’ built into the double glazed X-ray compliant glass. The blinds are manually operated by an external dial that completely shuts off any light passing through the glass.
In terms of appearance, all GRP X-ray doors are manufactured to look like doors without lead protection. The DMF Dortek X-ray range is available as hinged or sliding doors, with or without flush mounted windows.
Key benefits of DMF Dortek X-ray compliant GRP doors include fully sealed design with ultra clean construction; user-defined lead protection; non fire rated or fire rated to 120 minutes (Australian certification); hinged, sliding or hermetic sliding options; lead-lined vision panels and factory-fitted hardware available to suit application; X-ray suited glass windows with shielding blinds; integral colour; standard or bespoke sizes; and manual or automatic models.
