Over the past two years since Volt’s commercial launch, we have embarked on a remarkable journey, transforming our solar tiles from merely an innovative idea into a celebrated solution for homeowners, builders, and property developers across Australia and worldwide.
Today, we proudly celebrate another significant achievement: Volt received the prestigious Good Design Award Gold Winner accolade in the Engineering Design category for exceptional design and innovation at the 2024 Australian Good Design Awards.
This recognition not only marks a significant milestone in our journey but also validates the years of hard work and dedication invested in developing our innovative solar solution.
Our design journey
Our design journey started from the vision of our CEO, Peter Leeson. Peter began his journey as an electrician, running his own business from the age of 22. In 2008, he transitioned into the renewable energy sector and founded Leeson Solar, a company initially focused on residential and commercial solar design and installation. Under his leadership, Leeson Solar expanded into utility-scale solar farm developments, securing a development pipeline exceeding 1 GW across Australia.
Alongside this ongoing success, Peter saw an opportunity to innovate and make a difference in the residential market. He identified a gap between the demand and availability of aesthetically pleasing rooftop solar solutions, which inspired him to develop Volt Solar Tile, with the aim to encourage the adoption of rooftop solar solutions through its innovative design.
The product – Volt solar tile
Volt solar tile has undergone a lot of refinement to reach the end product that it is today. Our team invested over five years in research and development, dedicating their efforts to understanding market needs, selecting technologies, and refining product features. This meticulous process has resulted in solar tile products that balance functionality, ease of installation, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness. As a result, Volt is now the most efficient solar tile available worldwide at the lowest cost per watt, with adaptability for various installation requirements across different countries, ensuring scalability and global reach.

Established in 1958, the Good Design Awards is Australia’s premier international design endorsement program. For over six decades, it has set the global standard for design excellence, celebrating projects, people, and brands that push the boundaries of great design.
This year’s theme, The Design Effect, highlights the ripple effects of exceptional design on individuals and communities, transforming the way we live, work, and interact. Volt’s Gold Winner accolade in the Engineering Design category celebrates our outstanding solar tile design that balances form and function to achieve a positive environmental impact at scale.
